Lunch

Cafeteria lunch is available for K – 6th grade. Prepaid cards are available and are encouraged. They may be purchased in the school office or cafeteria (checks made out to NMUSD).  To purchase with credit card you must do so on-line.  You will need you child’s SID number which is on their report card.

Please send sack lunches in the morning with students. Late lunch deliveries interrupt classroom instructional programs and distract your student while they are wondering if their lunch has arrived yet.

Absences

Please call the 24-hour absentee line at 515-6822 before 9:00 a.m. on or before the day of the absence or your student will be marked truant/unexcused without notification.

If you need to pick up your child during the day, you must check in and sign your student out in the front office. The office will contact his/her teacher to have your child come to the office for pick-up. You may not enter the classroom from the outside doors.

Flag Deck

Every Friday at 8:00 a.m., the students participate in the Flag Deck Assembly. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

Transportation

Most children walk or ride bikes (1st-6th only).  Please remember that helmets must be worn when riding and bikes must be walked across the blacktop; no items are to be left in the bike racks un-locked.

NO SKATEBOARDS ALLOWED

There is a designated carpool lane in the front of the school for drop-off. Please do not park in the “staff” parking lots. If you need to park, please use visitor spaces or park on the street.

Rainy Days

Students may be dropped off after 7:45 a.m. and wait in their classroom until the bell rings.

Volunteer Opportunities

Andersen has active and supportive parents whose volunteer work is needed and appreciated.  Parents assist in the classroom, library, computer lab, playground, and on many committees on a daily basis.  Both PTA and DEANs provide ongoing communications and opportunities to join and get involved. More information can be found on the Andersen PTA and DEANs Websites.

If you plan on volunteering at school or in the classroom, the Newport-Mesa Unified School District requires an up-to-date TB test (which means you have been tested since 2008). A copy must be on file in front office.

When coming onto the Andersen Campus you MUST come in through the front office, sign-in, and wear an “Andersen Visitor” sticker or your volunteer badge. For the safety of all students there is no access from any other doors.

Fundraising

Both the PTA and DEANs support Andersen financially through fundraisers held during the year.  PTA fundraising programs include eScrip, Run-A-Thon, Gift Wrap sales, Book Fairs, Box Tops for Education, Dinners Out, and more. The annual DEANs’ Dinner Dance will be held in the spring and Pumpkin Patch held in the fall.

Fundraising allows our school to provide much needed programs such as a Art, Computers, Teacher Specialists, Aides, Field Trips, Classroom Enrichment, and more.

PTA President, Kirstin Watson

DEANs President, Simon Dillon

Deliveries to School

Forgotten lunches, homework, and other deliveries during school hours must be left in the school office. Classrooms will not be interrupted to announce the arrival of a forgotten assignment, lunch, or other items. For the delivery of birthday treats, please talk to your child’s teacher prior to the date and deliver the treats five minutes before the end of the school day.  Parents may meet their child at the exit door of the classroom and pass out treats outside while the class sings “Happy Birthday.”  Of course healthy treats are strongly encouraged.
