Andersen Elementary School Home
Principal's Message

September 2, 2015

Dear Andersen Families,

On behalf of the Andersen Elementary School staff, welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! I hope your family had a relaxing summer and you were able to spend quality time together.

This will be an outstanding year for Andersen Elementary! Our school community remains committed to our mission of offering a rigorous instructional program, which is both academically challenging and rewarding for ALL students. Through the professional learning community model, Andersen Elementary is dedicated to maintaining a school culture that is focused on learning, collaboration, and results. In order for Andersen Elementary to achieve our mission, we work in a collaborative process we call our “Triangle of Success,” which includes school staff, parent community, and students.

The Andersen Staff will continue to focus on the school-wide theme of the four “R’s”: Respect, Responsible, Ready, and Recycle. With that theme in mind Andersen is committed to being responsible with our resources by going paperless. In an effort to keep effective communication between home and school please register and read the information sent through our School Loop web system: http://andersen.nmusd.us/ as well as the “Weekly Happenings” message from the principal. In addition, our PTA and DEANS websites are great resources of information. New this year - Andersen Elementary has a Twitter account; our handle is @andersenelemsc1. Please follow us on Twitter!

Again, welcome back and thank you for your continued support, time, and commitment to making Andersen the magnificent school that it is! I look forward to seeing each of you on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at 8:00 a.m.  ALL STUDENTS WILL BE LINING UP ON THE BLACKTOP. Parents will say their goodbyes and take their Facebook photos at the blacktop area. For safety purposes parents and visitors will not be permitted in the classrooms. Thank you for your support and enjoy the last few days of your summer!

Sincerely,

Dr. Shannon Bray

Dear Andersen Families,

Exciting things are happening at Andersen.  Students are preparing to showcase their learning at our Open House next week Thursday.  This is always a wonderful night to see all of the rich learning your children have received this school year.  You will be greatly impressed to see all of the Independent Study projects, written reports, and works of art.  Much of what you will see is made possible by the use of our Chromebooks. Students are getting extremely proficient with the use of Google Docs in many of their projects.  I look forward to seeing you all Open House night!

This week our 2-6th graders went to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts to experience the Pacific Symphony as a culminating event to our Class Act Music Program.  We learned so much this year about the music of Leonard Bernstein.  Class Act is one of the nine most exemplary music education programs in the United States.  Thank you to our PTA and the many parent volunteers who make the Class Act Music Program possible. We are so fortunate to participate in this musical experience.

SAFETY:  We had our monthly safety drill this week which was very successful.  The staff, students as well as parent volunteers did an exemplary job of showing they knew what to do in the case of an emergency.  Thank you in advance for adhering to our school safety procedures and policies and for your support in our “Triangle of Success.”
